Inventory

Count stock and reconcile the difference

Count what is actually on the shelf, enter the real number, and the system posts the difference for you. Nobody edits a balance by hand.

Why counts are special

A count is the one place you state an absolute number: there are 46 mats in the yard. Everywhere else, stock only moves. A count keeps that promise: it reads what the books say, takes the number you counted, and records the difference as a move into the loss place. Nobody overwrites a balance, so a correction always says where the stock went.

Record a count

Open Inventory, then Counts, pick the item and the place, and enter the quantity you counted. As you type, the form shows what the books say and previews the correction before you commit it:

  • Count fewer than the books say, and the shortage moves out to loss.
  • Count more, and the extra is pulled back from loss.
  • Count exactly what the books say, and nothing is posted.

The variance report

The loss place is not a black hole. The Counts page shows, per item, what has piled up there from write-offs and short counts, so shrinkage stays reviewable. A recent-counts list shows every count with the books figure, the counted figure, and the variance.
