Inventory
Set up inventory tracking
Turn on the Inventory module and answer two questions about anything you count: how many, and where.
What Inventory is for
Inventory answers two questions about anything you count: how many, and where. Rental units on customer sites, tools out with a crew, parts on a truck, PPE and consumables in the yard. If you never count stock, leave the module off and nothing changes.
Turn it on
Open the admin panel, go to Setup, find Inventory, and switch it On. A new Inventory entry appears in the side navigation. You can switch it off any time; your data stays, it is just hidden.
The one rule worth knowing first
A quantity is never edited by hand. Stock only ever moves from one place to another, and the count at each place is added up from those moves. To fix a mistake you record the move that puts it right, so the history always explains itself. Everything else in the module follows from that.
Where to start
- Add your items: the things you stock.
- Add your stocking places: your yards, customer sites, trucks, and crews.
- Then record what you have under Stock.
Start with the handful of things you move most. You do not have to enter everything before the module is useful.
