Why transfers have two legs

A truckload does not teleport. It leaves one place, spends time on the road, and arrives at another. Inventory records that as two moves through the built-in In transit place, so stock in flight is visible instead of missing while the truck is rolling.

Record a departure

Open Inventory, then Transfers, and start a load. Pick the truck, the driver, where it is coming from, where it is going, and the item lines with quantities. Recording the departure takes the stock off the origin and puts it in transit. If a line would take more than the origin holds, the whole load is refused with a plain message, so a load never posts half true.

Record the arrival

When the load lands, open it and record what was delivered. The delivered quantities are measured against what actually left, so any shortfall is obvious. What arrives comes out of transit and into the destination.

Loads that do not add up

• If less is delivered than was loaded, the difference stays in transit as a residual, visible and worth chasing, rather than disappearing.
• A load that is still on the road shows in an in-transit list with its age, so nothing is forgotten.
• Made a load by mistake? Cancel it, and the stock goes straight back to where it started.
